Living Life In The Slow Lane - Nationwide Survey Assesses Demand For Residential Boating

In response to the sustained and continued increase in the usage of the UK’s canals and rivers, including by people wishing to live afloat, the Residential Boat Owners Association (RBOA) and British Waterways (BW) are inviting current and prospective residential boaters to complete a survey to provide information on the demand for living afloat and their preferences for different types of residential moorings.

British Waterways (BW) has commenced a 12-week public consultation on the pricing and allocation of its long term directly managed moorings. A consultation paper, considering the options available for allocating and pricing vacancies – including a review of the current mooring tenders trial – has been published on the BW website.

British Waterways is calling upon the general public to help them protect the rich array of wildlife on Britain’s canals and rivers by taking part in it’s Wildlife Survey, which records biodiversity on the waterways.

Waterways Boss Goes On Tour To Meet Customers

British Waterways (BW) chief executive, Robin Evans, is set to embark on a nationwide tour to meet with boaters, anglers, walkers, and other interested local canal users, giving customers a dedicated forum to discuss their interests and express their views on the management of the waterways.

BW To Review Its Residential Property Estate

British Waterways (BW) is reviewing its residential property estate across England, Scotland and Wales. The review will consider if there are better ways in which the estate, which includes a number of operational as well as heritage buildings, could be managed and cared for whilst making a greater contribution to the cost of maintaining the waterways network.

The Falkirk Wheel attracted over 500,000 visitors in 2007, a 17.5 per cent increase on 2006, according to VisitScotland's Scottish Visitor Attraction Monitor, announced today, Friday, 9 May 2008.
