Boat Licensing Update

During 2007 British Waterways undertook an extensive consultation on future boat licence fees. Many boaters and representative groups contributed to this and some good suggestions were made.

BW Celebrates Waterway Volunteers

British Waterways (BW) is celebrating the diversity and importance of the volunteering that takes place across its canals and rivers by recognising ten projects that have been particularly successful in the past 12 months. Ranging from heritage recording and ranger services to physical construction works and encouraging community engagement, BW will be highlighting the value of the projects by presenting an 'acknowledgement' award to each.

Waterways For The 21st Century

British Waterways’ Annual Meeting in Birmingham this autumn (8 October 2008) will include, for the first time, an open panel debate on the future role and funding of waterways in England and Wales in the 21st Century. This will be the first step towards a public consultation across Great Britain next year on British Waterways’ ten-year business strategy.

Living Life In The Slow Lane - Nationwide Survey Assesses Demand For Residential Boating

In response to the sustained and continued increase in the usage of the UK’s canals and rivers, including by people wishing to live afloat, the Residential Boat Owners Association (RBOA) and British Waterways (BW) are inviting current and prospective residential boaters to complete a survey to provide information on the demand for living afloat and their preferences for different types of residential moorings.

BW Consults On Pricing And Allocation Of Long Term Moorings

British Waterways (BW) has commenced a 12-week public consultation on the pricing and allocation of its long term directly managed moorings. A consultation paper, considering the options available for allocating and pricing vacancies – including a review of the current mooring tenders trial – has been published on the BW website.

Climate change and alien species have contributed to the decline of many once common creatures living on or by the waterways. British Waterways is calling upon the general public to help them protect the rich array of wildlife on Britain’s canals and rivers by taking part in it’s Wildlife Survey, which records biodiversity on the waterways.
