Waterways Boss Goes On Tour To Meet Customers

16 May 2008

British Waterways (BW) chief executive, Robin Evans, is set to embark on a nationwide tour to meet with boaters, anglers, walkers, and other interested local canal users, giving customers a dedicated forum to discuss their interests and express their views on the management of the waterways.

The twenty customer meetings, throughout the summer, in addition to BW's regular programme of meetings between local management and waterway users, will see Robin provide a quick update on BW activities before opening up to questions from attendees. BW is particularly interested to hear customers' views on the mooring tenders trial, which began in October 2007.

Robin says: "The additional round of customer meetings I hosted during the 2007 boat licence fee consultation period proved extremely useful for discussion about licence fee proposals and for generally understanding and responding to customers' concerns."

"Part of the appeal of canals is the diverse groups of users who sometimes have different priorities and different perspectives.I want to manage the waterways for the greatest public benefit and hearing and exchanging views at first hand will help develop the right policies for the future."

There are two meetings in each of BW's regional 'business units', with the first two taking place in the north west on 5 June 2008 at Dukinfield Town Hall and Wigan Pier.

Anyone with an interest in the nation's waterways is free to attend.A full list of the meetings is available on the BW website at: www.britishwaterways.co.uk/askbw
